Condition

Overall in good condition. The sideboard presents with a rich mahogany color that is slightly blonder than in the catalogue illustration. The sideboard has a glazed earthenware tile top with graceful, Japanesque apple blossom motif on an orange background, which complements the carved decoration of the front of the piece. The glazed earthenware surface with minor surface scratches, light surface soiling and a few minor abrasions consistent with age and gentle use. Some areas of the top have been sensitively restored at some point in the history of the piece, which is only visible upon close inspection. The wood surfaces with minor surface scratches, minor abrasions and light surface dirt to the recessed portions of the design, consistent with age and gentle use. The lower and mid shelves present with sensitively undertaken restorations to each lateral edge, with minor associated indentations and cracks in the wood and minor lifting to the veneer, which does not affect the stability of the shelves. The delicate gilt bronze handles are also in the form of apple blossoms and buds. The handles have been re-gilt and present with minor surface scratches consistent with age and gentle use. This masterfully crafted sideboard displays a thoughtfully balanced composition incorporating robust design with refined detailing, unified by the reiteration of the apple blossom motif throughout. -----
