Condition
Overall in excellent original condition. The current condition of the magnificent table is a testament to the sensitive care of the previous owner. As seen the detailed images of the table that appear both online and in the print catalogue, this superb burl wood selection is magnified by the extraordinary freeform edges of the work. Nakashima truly fulfilled his design ideology of maintaining the "soul of the tree" in the execution of this work. The natural fissures, imperfections and burls throughout have been maintained and prioritized in the design. The top with a few scattered minute shallow surface scratches, consistent with gentle use. The edge with a few very minor edge chips, which are only visible on close inspection because of the complexity of the form. The base of this table is executed in American black walnut, which gives the piece a wonderful visual depth in the contrast of color and figuring to the top. The base some minor surface scratches, nicks and minute dings consistent with gentle use. This table when viewed firsthand is a remarkable work of sculpture displaying a dynamic shape further enhanced by the bold figuring of the burled maple. -----
