Condition

Overall in excellent original condition showing very gentle use. This console table is part of a larger collection acquired as part of a long relationship with George Nakashima. Five works from the collection of Dorothy G. Roby appear in this auction catalogue. The current condition of this console shows the acute attention and care of the owners. The wood selection used to execute this work presents with extraordinary figuring and deeply saturated hues throughout ranging in colors from warm caramel hues to vivid reds as seen in the catalogue illustration. The case with a few very minute surface scratches, minute edge nicks and edge indentations from gentle use. The front edge with a wonderful free edge that highlights many of the natural characteristics of the expressive top. One minor edge indentation to the underside of the edge, which is not visible once the piece is righted. A wonderful example of Nakashima’s design that pairs a model created for the Rockefeller commission, with the expressive and richly figured woods used in the works for the Roby commission. -----
