Description

  • George Nakashima
  • "Minguren II" Dining Table
  • two book-matched American black walnut boards and East Indian rosewood

Provenance

Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner

Condition

Overall in excellent original condition showing very gentle use. This table is part of a larger collection acquired as part of a long relationship with George Nakashima. Five works from the collection of Dorothy G. Roby appear in this auction catalogue. The current condition of this table shows the acute attention and care of the owners. The top of the table presents beautifully in person with extraordinary figuring and rich coloration throughout. The highly detailed top is further complemented by dramatic freeform edges of these two wonderfully book-matched boards of English walnut. The top presents with a few very minute and shallow surface scratches, a few minor light discolorations, two very minute edge nicks consistent with gentle use. There is one very minor old intention to the top, measuring ½ inch in length along the table’s center line which is only visible upon very close inspection. The lower portion of the base with a few minor scratches and edge nicks consistent with regular use. This magnificent table epitomizes Nakashima design ideology and maintains the true character of the extraordinary wood selection. A true masterwork by the artist showing remarkable scale when viewed firsthand. -----
