Catalogue Note
The present dish takes its petal-lobed form from Ding porcelain of the late Tang dynasty and demonstrates the degree of dialogue between the Ding ceramicists and lacquer craftsmen. In turn, the gentle recessed base on this piece can be seen to have been adopted by ceramicists. An individual dish of similar form from the collection of Sakamoto Goro was sold in these rooms, 8th October 2013, lot 141.
