  • Bronze
the deep spherical body raised on three supports, crisply cast on the exterior with two low relief bands of interlaced serpentine scrolls divided by a narrow horizontal rope-twist band, the neck flanked by a pair of upright pierced handles, decorated on each side with kuilong and rope-twist bands, the low domed cover similarly decorated with three concentric bands, applied with three later-added bird-form finials, the bronze of a mottled olive-green patina with malachite encrustation, Japanese wood box (4)

Condition

The X-ray suggests that the vessel is in good overall condition. There is a small filled hole under one handle and some fill that is possibly original to manufacture under the other handle. There are nibbles along the edges most noticeable to the handles. The surface has some scattered shallow chips. Surface has been slightly cleaned..
