- Lacquer wood panel
one side carved with a scene of the brilliant strategist Zhuge Liang seated in a chariot beneath a canopy directing troops in battle, between panels depicting idyllic scenes of poets, all sandwiched between panels enclosing baskets of flowers above and mythical beasts below, the other side with phoenix surrounded by birds amongst floral branches, framed by scenes of landscapes and sprays of flowers and fruit
Condition
Each panel with areas of repainting, consolidation of the lost and lifting lacquer, restoration to splitting and coated with a varnish that has now slightly yellow-ed. Each panel with a horizontal split at the top with at least one of them slightly loose. The upper corner of one of the panels has restored diagonal break.
