  • Bronze
supported on a short splayed foot, the opposing handles cast in the form of elephant heads, the base with an apocryphal four-character Xuande seal mark within a recessed rectangle, the stand with five ruyi-form feet, both heavily cast and patinated to a rich reddish-brown color (2)

Provenance

Acquired in China prior to 1968 and thence by descent.

Condition

The body, base and stand have a reddish patina, with some wear to the patination, some minor nicks along the edges consistent with age and some scattered specks of encrustation. Overall the censer and stand appear to be in good condition.
