A PAIR OF CINNABAR LACQUER RECTANGULAR TRAYS QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD

Description

  • lacquer on wood
each with shallow rounded sides rising from a flat base supported on four short rectangular feet, finely carved to the interior with cherry blossoms on a wave ground within a key-fret band, the cavetto with four cusped panels enclosing foliate diaper divided by a bat at each corner, all reserved on a wan-diaper ground, the exterior with foliate diaper, the base lacquered black 

Condition

The rims of both trays with areas of re-lacquer. There are general small chips and losses to the lacquer, particularly around the extremities. The largest area measuring 0.4x0.5cm on the prunus petal on one tray. There are minor age cracks. The actual colours are of a brighter red tone compared to the catalogue illustration.
