the heavily-potted ovoid body rising from a recessed base to a short waisted neck with rolled rim, carved through the brown glaze to the body with a broad band of scrolling foliage at the shoulder, all above a ribbed and brown glazed lower body, the neck and shoulder set with a pair of simple lug handles

Acquired from John Sparks Ltd., London in the 1930s (by repute).

Condition

The jar is in good condition with the exception of two rim chips (circa 4.5 x 2.5cm., and 3 x 1.5cm.), small chips to the edges of the handles and minor glaze firing imperfections around the body including adhered kiln grit and glaze pulls.
