the exterior incised and boldly enamelled in bright green against a yellow ground with a continuous scene of eight boys dancing and playing various musical instruments on a terrace beneath pine trees, all between a stylised floral band at the rim and a band of lotus petals at the foot, the interior yellow, the base inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character mark within a double-circle

Condition

The overall condition is very good, except for two short hairline cracks to the rim (approx. 0.6 and 0.3 cm on the exterior, and only 0.3 cm on the interior for both). There are also some minor surface wear and glaze irregularity to the interior well.

A Yongzheng bowl of this design is illustrated in Chinese Porcelain. The S.C. Ko Tianminlou Collection, part 1, Hong Kong, 1987, pl. 103; and another is included in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 2, London, 1994, p. 231, pl. 895, where it is mentioned that Ming bowls of similar design are known from the Jiajing period, such as the one illustrated in John Ayers, The Baur Collection. Chinese Ceramics, vol. 2, Geneva, 1969, pl. A166.
