Description

  • Charles Dudouyt
  • Table
  • oak and stained oak

Provenance

Albert Hadley, New York
Acquired from the above by the present owner, 2006

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The wood surfaces present with a few scattered minor scratches and edge abrasions consistent with age and gentle use and concentrated to the base. With a few minor areas of discoloration to the wood, consistent with age. Minor separation at the joints to two corner edges of the top and to one leg, which does not affect the solidity of the table. Minor losses along the lower edge along the stretcher at the base and very minor traces of restoration to the centre. The underside of the top has probably been modified at some point in the history of the piece. The top is perfectly stable and resting on the table base. There are screws from a previous presentation, though the top would then be slightly off center. A sculptural dining table showing the influence of Africanism on the artist's work.
