Condition
Overall in good condition. Please contact the Sotheby's 20th Century Department for additional photographs showing the variant side of the vases. The surfaces of each vase present with minor irregularities, including minute burst air bubbles, inherent in the material and production technique. Minor surface dirt, consistent with age and gentle use. The gilded surfaces with minor surface scratches and some traces of wear concentrated to the edges and upper edges of the feathers, consistent with age and gentle handling. A minor area of restoration to the upper portion of the foot of one vase, measuring approximately ¾ x 1 in. and visible on the right vase in the catalogue illustration. Both of the vases show evidences of restoration between the foot and the coupe, visible underblacklight.
A very elegant design that epitomizes the collaboration between Gio Ponti and Richard Ginori.
