the individual dishes fitting together to form a lotus flower, each painted with chrysanthemum and peony, set within its original gilt and brown lacquer box and cover, the top surface painted with pheasants amongst flowering peony
Condition
Counting clockwise from the top: The top dish was restored. The top right dish with one corner broken and restuck. The small dish above this with two corners broken and restuck, and some firing cracks to the interior. The central right dish with minor restoration to one corner. The small dish below this with one corner broken and restuck. The lower right dish had a section broken and restuck. The bottom dish with a firing crack to the interior. The lower left dish with a 5.3cm hairline crack to the lower right edge, and a 5.2cm horizontal hairline to the base. The central left dish with a rim chip (1.6x0.4cm), the smaller dish below this is restored. The top left dish with some faint hairlines around the sides and a chip to the lower edge (0.6x0.3cm). All dishes with minor glaze firing imperfections, surface wear, enamel flakes and minute chips. The lacquer box with general age cracks and paint loss, in consistent with age.
