Description

  • Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell. London: Aylott and Jones, 1846.
  • Paper, ink, leather
8vo (169 x 106 mm). Full gilt green morocco by Sangorski with the original cloth (Parrish II) bound in at rear.

first edition, the rare first issue of the first book by the brontë sisters. In 1846, 1000 copies of the first issue were published by Aylott & Jones, but sales were very poor, with less than 40 copies sold. In an attempt to capitalize on the surprising success of Jane Eyre, Smith, Elder and Co., bought up the unsold stock in September 1848 and re-issued the book with a cancel title-page.
