Two vols. in one. 8vo (168 x 105 mm). Contemporary black morocco, gilt, the name of Julia Margaret Cameron stamped in gilt on the upper cover, edges gilt and gauffered; upper hinge broken.
first editions, presentation copy, inscribed by Patmore to Julia Margaret Cameron, a close friend of Tennyson and one of the most famous Victorian photographers. This volume has a number of important manuscript additions and revisions by the author. Patmore constantly revised his poem over the years; the final version was not published until 1878. Most of the insertions in the present copy can be found in the final text, usually reworked and re-positioned, but other verses, both printed and manuscript, have been omitted from later editions.
