Catalogue Note
First edition of a very scarce folio pamphlet. The introductory sonnet was written by Coleridge, and Lamb's "The Grandam" appears on pp. 25-27. Lloyd claimed Coleridge as a major influence on his writing and even paid him £80 a year for three hours of instruction daily for a number of years. It was through Coleridge that Lloyd met Lamb. This series of poems was reprinted in the second edition of Coleridge's Poems, 1797.
Very rare. Only three copies have appeared in the auction rooms since 1940, the last being the Rabinowitz/Berland copy in 2001.
