Contemporary brown morocco over green cloth, floral gilt endpapers, top edges gilt; rubbed, rebacked preserving original spine, corners restored. Half brown morocco slipcase, chemise.

Catalogue Note

First edition, one of only fifteen copies printed for private distribution. A series of twenty-five delightful letters written by Francis for the Troy Times (which he owned), describing "the experience of a little party of trojans, who inspired by a common fondness for hunting and fishing, determined to journey to the great Northwest in search of game, fish, and adventure" (preface). The striking photographs include land- and waterscapes, views, and portraits of the sportsmen abd local Indian peoples, including Cree, Blackfoot, and Piegan.

Presentation copy, inscribed and signed by the author on a front blank: "Mr. John Boetcher, with the compliments of Charles S. Francis. Troy, Aug. 15, 1889."
