Catalogue Note
First edition, third printing of a great Tennyson rarity, printed for use at court. This poem was written to mark the arrival in England of the new wife of Queen Victoria's second son, the Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke's marriage to the Grand duchess Maris Alexandrovna, daughter of Tsar Alexander II of Russia, took place at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg on 23 January 1874. The marriage did not prove to be a happy one.
This leaflet went through four very small printings. Two other copies of this printing are known: the Ashley copy now in the British Library and the Colbeck copy at British Columbia.
