Description
- Shelley, Percy Bysshe
- Poetical Pieces. London: C. and J. Ollier and W. Simpkin and R. Marshall, 1823.
- Paper, ink, leather
8vo (212 x 132 mm). Contemporary ornately stamped purple calf with central panel of marbled paper inside gilt surround.
This collection of Shelley's work contains three first editions: Prometheus Unbound, Hellas and Rosalind and Helen. The Cenci is the second edition (but first London edition) and a new general title has been added. Wise notes "During recent years nearly every available copy has been broken up.. and the three first editions have been separately bound. Thus it seldom occurs today." A scarce survival in a fine contemporary binding, we can trace only two copies at auction since 1981.
