Catalogue Note

“One of the best accounts of the Isthmus of Panama, its natural resources, and the native Indians” (Hill). Wafer, a surgeon by training, was a member of a squadron of buccaneers in South America which also included William Dampier. Breaking ranks from their commander with fifty-two others, Wafer set off for the coast of Panama. There, he was injured in a gun-powder explosion, and left by his compatriots to recover among the Darien Indians.
