A wide-ranging account of Stockell's adventures at sea, including an encounter with Nelson's fleet at Trafalgar, North America, the Caribbean, India, south-east Asia, cruises up the Persian Gulf and Red Sea, Greenland and the Arctic. He records engagements with pirates, whaling expeditions (one with Scoresby), and shipwrecks (the last of which saw him as the sole survivor).
