Catalogue Note
Smith devotes more than sixteen pages (pp.207-223) to his two years in New South Wales from 1798 to 1800. Imprisoned for debt in Sydney, he escaped and lived in the bush, frequently encountering Aborigines whose customs and traditions he describes in some detail.
