Catalogue Note
The work comprises a memorial of Simpson, who died on the expedition, by his brother Alexander, followed by Simpson’s journal (see also previous lot).
"During… the trip the expedition encountered many western Eskimo and traded with them. Simpson’s description of these natives and of the geological features along the route is valuable for the history of the early exploration of this region of Alaska" (Lada-Mocarski).
