Catalogue Note
RARE. ABPC records only one copy at auction. The second and most important of Sir Anthony Sherley's travels in Persia; the first, consisting of five leaves only, had been published the year before (1600). ''That interest in Persia and in the picturesque adventurers who went there held an important place on the literary stage is evident from the sizeable literature about the Sherley brothers, of whom much the best account is William Parry's A New and Large Discourse of the Travels of Sir Anthony Sherley… This very graphic narrative is greatly to be preferred to Sir Anthony's own turgid self-justification'' (Boies Penrose, Travel and Discovery in the Renaissance).
