Catalogue Note
A RARITY FROM SCOTT’S FIRST VOYAGE. The first page shows that Discovery’s books were divided between various locations including officers’ cabins. Scott’s cabin (pressmarks A, B, C, and D) was rich in travel, but light on scientific works. The mess deck had a good selection of fiction by Charlotte Brontë, Lewis Carroll, Whyte Melville as well as thirty-five volumes of Punch.
