Catalogue Note
Scott was an administrator in Burma; at the time he wrote this, he was Superintendent for the northern Shan States. “He had an iron physique, great energy, and a quick temper, but he also had a warm heart, and was a good commander who seldom failed to win people over. His diaries reveal him as a lively and humorous observer of the Burma scene, to whom marches of 25 miles, settling local disputes, writing innumerable official reports, and battling with malaria were all routine events” (ODNB).
