Catalogue Note
Park's Travels, recording his hardships during almost two years' travels and captivity in Africa, was a best-seller, offering readers their first realistic description of everyday life in west Africa.
The Journal of a Mission recounts Park's last, ill-fated, expedition to the Niger, during which the whole party perished, either at the hands of tribesmen or in the Bussa rapids.
