A wide-ranging account which culminates with the Nootka Sound crisis during which the Spanish and British disputed sovereignty of the area. After describing the Mediterranean (including Cyprus, Smyrna, Aleppo, Egypt, etc.), America (Chesapeake, West Indies, etc.) the author "joins the Nootka Sound armament".
