Catalogue Note

John Cadman Etches, together with his brother Richard, founded the King George's Sound Company, a trading enterprise supported by Joseph Banks, and which owned the ships of Portlock, Dixon, Duncan, and Colnett. King Georges's Sound was the name originally given by Captain Cook to Nootka Sound.
