Catalogue Note
Like Clements and Albert Markham, Frederick (1805-1855) was a descendant of William Markham, Archbishop of York. "A wiry, active man" (ODNB), Frederick was an ardent sportsman his entire life, and in April 1852 embarked upon this long shooting expedition, penetrating as far as Ladakh and returning with numerous skulls and bones of magnificent creatures as trophies.
