Catalogue Note

A rare confidential report. The purpose of the mission was threefold: to enter into discussions with the Maharaja, to visit Lachen valley to see if a trade route could be opened up with Tibet, and to meet and establish friendly relations with the Tibetans. This work is based on Macaulay's diary of his tour with his photographs and is reproduced unedited, as it was written every night after long marches.
