Catalogue Note

Henry Lord was appointed chaplain to the East India Company in Surat in 1624, where he remained until 1629. While at Surat he acquired some knowledge of Hindustani and Persian, and studied the customs of the natives. This work includes one of the earliest known and extensive descriptions of Hinduism in a European language.
