Catalogue Note

John Skinner Prout (1806-1876), a watercolourist, left England for Sydney in 1840. In Australia, he flourished as an artist, built up his own art teaching practice, and published three volumes of lithographs of Australian scenery. This very scarce pamphlet is "closely related to his Australian work and his artistic career" (Wantrup).
