the first requesting the return of his run of the Morning Chronicle from William Hazlitt, the second arranging a meeting, 2 pages, 4to, Skinner St, London, 10 February 1819 to 8 October 1821; the third to the publisher and bookseller Charles Ollier, complaining of Ollier's tardiness in delivering books but requesting the memoirs of La Vallette, Napoleon's private secretary ("...I want any thing, & every thing, that can put my thoughts in the train of 'hair-breadth scapes.' And your house keeps me so bare, that I can buy nothing..."), 1 page, 4to, [London], 22 September 1831, with a cancelled opening to a story on the verso, light damp-staining (3)

Catalogue Note

Letters by a key figure in British Romanticism and the founder of philosophical anarchism. His correspondent in two of these letters, William Hone, was a radical writer and publisher who was notoriously, and unsuccessfully, tried for blasphemy in 1817.
