A fragment of the working manuscript of Byron's first major poem. He began this satirical attack on the literary establishment at Cambridge in 1807, following reviews of his Hours of Idleness, and it was published in March 1809. Other fragments of the draft manuscript from which these lines were taken are found at a number of repositories, whilst a complete manuscript is in the John Murray Archive at the National Library of Scotland.
