Catalogue Note
Carl Linnaeus, also known as Carl von Linné or Carolus Linnaeus, was a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist. He devised the formal two-part naming system we use to classify all life forms and was one of the most influential scientists of his time.
Linnaeus is depicted here with his pipe, which he supposedly smoked to alleviate his chronic toothache.
