Description

  • paper
  • overall 88 by 113cm..; 34½in., 44½in.
a mounted print of a photo collage with four hand coloured photographic prints of horses and jockeys, each dated and signed J. Mathews, clockwise from top left the horses are named: Sir Hugo, Le Flootre, Moddier and Petronel

Provenance

Acquired by Robert Crewe-Milnes, 1st Marquess (1858-1945). The Marquess was an ardent racing fanatic and owned several horses.

Condition

Very decorative. The glass would benefit from a clean to the inside, so the it will require dismantling. The mount is stained and tired and will most likely require replacement. The collage is slightly faded as are the vignettes to each corner. This is a very charming lot, which is in unrestored condition having been in store for many years.
