Catalogue Note

This charming portrait of a young lady holding a parrot clearly relates to a red chalk drawing executed by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Giovanni Domenico's drawing was probably inspired by one of his father's paintings, however no exact work in oil by Giovanni Battista survives.

These popular portraits were often replicated by artists working in the Tiepolo studio.
