surmounted by a brocatelle jaune d'Espagne marble top, the central door opening to one shelf, the carcass stamped HEUBES and bearing a pseudo JACOB JME stamp

Condition

Overall in good condition and presentation with the usual minor hairline scratches and minute nicks to veneers and carcass consistent with age and use. Tarnishing to gilt-bronze in places also consistent with age and atmospheric conditions through the years. The marble with the usual minute chips to edges, light scratches to surface consistent with age and use, due to placing object on top. Few stabilized visible woodworm holes scattered throughout the piece. The fluted columns and fluted rectangular front decoration as well as fluted feet were decorated with gilt metallic inlay, which has extensively disappeared leaving those areas with a dark colour. Catalogue Note

Hubert-Joseph Heubès (1826- circa 1895) was recorded as having a shop at 12, rue du Parc-Royal in 1854, then at 3, rue de la Pèrle in Paris between 1860 and 1876. Renown ébéniste and marqueteur he participated at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle with great acclaim.
