Condition
Laid down. Scattered fox, especially in the upper part. Trace of an old vertical fold. Tiny losses to the left center. The chalk is still very fresh. Sold in a carved and guilted late 18th century frame.

Catalogue Note
Notre dessin est une étude pour le personnage situé à gauche de la composition monumentale réalisée par Le Moyne en 1722, Tancrède rendant les armes à Clorinde, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Besançon. Il existe d'autres études de personnages pour cette composition appartenant au Musée du Louvre et autrefois à la Galerie Cailleux. Une série de 11 études ont été vendus à Paris le 11 Décembre 1758, dont celui-ci en faisait probablement partie (voir J.-L. Bordeaux, François Le Moyne and his Generation, Neuilly-sur-Seine 1981, pp. 86-87, sous le n°33).
This is a study for the figure to the far right of Le Moyne’s monumental 1722 painting. Tancred and Clorinda, in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Besançon. Other figure studies for the painting are in the Louvre and formerly with
Cailleux, and a series of 11, of which this may have been one, were sold in Paris, 11 December 1758 (see J.-L. Bordeaux, François Le Moyne and his Generation, Neuilly-sur-Seine 1981, pp. 86-87, under n°33).
