Condition

Generally in very good condition. Colours are fresh. Few tiny pin point spots, not very visible in the sky. Overall very good condition. Sold in a carved and guilted wooden frame.

Catalogue Note

Claude-Louis Châtelet acquit rapidement une réputation en tant que peintre de paysages, ce qui le conduisit à être choisi comme l'un des illustrateurs principaux de l'un des ouvrages les plus importants de la fin du XVIIIe siècle : Voyage pittoresque ou Description des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicile, publié en quatre volumes entre 1781 et 1786 par l'abbé de Saint-Non.
On retrouve une copie gravée de ce dessin par François-Marie-Isidore Queverdo en page 127 de l’édition de 1783 intitulée Vue prise dans les environs de Reggio.

Claude Louis Châtelet quickly gained a great reputation as landscapes’s painter, which led him to be chosen as one of the main illustrators of one of the most important literary works of the late eighteen century: Voyage pittoresque ou Description des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicile, published in four volumes between 1781 and 1786 by the abbot de Saint-Non.
We can find an etching of this drawing engraved by François Isidore Queverdo in page 127 of the 1783’s edition, under the entitled Vue prise dans les environs de Reggio.
