Condition

Illustration is slightly too orange. As visible on the image, gilding is tarnished on the ends of the garland (near the beaks of the swans). Otherwise, overall good condition. Very fine chasing.

Catalogue Note

Une paire de vases de ce modèle, avec une monture identique mais en serpentine, provenant de la collection de Mr et Mrs N. Groves a été vendue chez Christie's à New York, le 15 octobre 1988, lot 29.

Le cristal taillé, transparent ou en bleu cobalt destiné à être monté de bronze doré  fut  apprécié à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Plusieurs exemplaires sont connus comme la paire signée du bronzier Pajot provenant de la collection Parke Firestone vendue chez Christie's à New York les 22-23 mai 1991, lot 868. Un vase similaire apparait sur une nature morte du peintre Anne Vallayer-Coster (1744-1818) vendue chez Sotheby's à Paris, le 25 mars 2014, lot 74.
