Condition

Overall very good condition with some surface dirt and a few scratches consistent with age and handling, a few fine chips to the lower edges of the base. There appears to be a fine repair to the side of the tambourine and one arm restored. Terracotta very finely modelled and very attractive piece.

Catalogue Note

Marin, considéré comme le plus talentueux élève de Clodion (1738-1814), excella dans la représentation de la nudité féminine et nombre de bacchantes et de nymphes témoignent de son extrème abilité à retranscrire leurs charmes sensuels. Notre terre cuite est probablement la Bacchante couchée signalée par  Lami dans la collection Lucien Desmarais.
