After having collaborated with l’Atelier de Recherches et Création of the Mobilier National for the interior decoration of Georges Pompidou’s apartments at the Palais de l’Elysée from 1962 to 1972, Pierre Pauline and l’ARC worked together once again in 1979 to create a collection of pieces in the spirit of French cabinet-making. He employed classical techniques: use of precious wood, inclusions, marquetry and described this approach as a ‘translation of the past into contemporary language’. These pieces of work were displayed in 1983 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

FR: Très bon état général. Petites égratignures de surface eparses, un peu plus importantes sur le haut du dossier. Infimes fissures aux jointures des accotoirs et des traverses. Petits chocs et traces d'anciennes restaurations sur les pieds. Le cannage de l'assise est peint à l'imitation du bois. Quelques manques de peinture. La couleur du fauteuil est un peu plus proche du violet-rouge que la photo du catalogue. Photos disponibles sur demande. EN : Very good overall condition. Minor surface scratches scattered, slightly more important on the top of the back. Very minor cracks at the joints. Minor dents et signs of ancient restorations on the feet. The cane is painted to imitate the wood. Some minor lacks of paint. The colour of the armchair is slightly more purple-red than on the catalogue. Photos available on request.

Après avoir collaboré avec l’Atelier de Recherches et Création du Mobilier National pour l’aménagement des appartements de Georges Pompidou au Palais de l’Elysée de 1962 à 1972, Pierre Pauline renoue avec l’ARC en 1979 pour créer un ensemble d’œuvres dans la grande tradition de l’ébénisterie française. Il en reprend les techniques : utilisation de bois précieux, inclusions, marqueterie et décrit cette démarche comme une « traduction du passé en langage contemporain ». Ces œuvres seront exposées en 1983 au Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
