Brewster won the WBO with a split decision over Kali Meehan in April, then defended later that year against Klitschko. After Simon's death, Brewster said this about his former manager in an interview with Boxingscene.com, "Sam was more than just a manager, he was like a family member to me...he's the guy you called in the middle of the night or he'd call you late in the night. We'd laugh all the time, we'd have serious conversations...he really helped me to become the fighter that I was and I just can't thank God enough for Sam Simon."
