Most form letters, some with multiples from the same publication; other publications include The New Yorker, Los Angeles Times, Gallery, NFL, Universal Press Syndicate and Sports Illustrated, part of the MAD letter reads "Dear Friend - Unlike many cold, callous editors, we at MAD believe that anyone taking the time and trouble to submit material deserves a warm, personal note rather than an indifferent form letter. So please consider this to be a warm, personal note rather than the indifferent form letter it really is! Obviously since no check fell out of the envelope when you opened it, the material you submitted didn't make it for one reason or another. Sorry about that!"; 19 pieces total
