Condition

Overall in very good condition. The wood surface displays with a great range of colors and rich figuring. The wood with a few minor surface scratches, minor edge abrasions, light surface dirt and a few minor discolorations consistent with age and gentle use. A sculptural piece with great provenance. The original owners of this work met Nakashima in 1955 when they had a piece of furniture to repair. They enjoyed art and had an eye for what was modern. Mr. Nakashima explained that he did not repair but he did create furniture. When they saw his beautiful, organic pieces they were hooked. The present lot represents the first purchase from Nakashima, and the beginning of a close relationship with the artist. ---
