Catalogue Note

A Hai graduated from Nanjing Art Institute, and currently lives and works in Beijing. His works are compositions of fragments in the imagination, bringing a sense of magical dreams, absurdity, and alienation into one. Figures dressed in scholars robes float in a scene with oversized rocks and bamboo scenes. In Chu Lou, a strangeness pervades the image as two robed scholars are caught in a conversation. The dreamlike scene is both a moment of absurdity but also of calm in its well-balanced composition.
