Catalogue Note
Surgeon and sculptor, Dr. Kaare Kristian Nygaard, was first introduced to Alexander Calder through a referral from his office receptionist, who had previously worked for the grandson of Henri Matisse. After his initial treatment of Calder and through their shared passion for creating art, Dr. Nygaard and the artist developed a close friendship that continued for the remainder of Calder’s life.
